This is an original article written by Jason Holzberg of NewYorkPudding.com and posted here by request with full permission. By car, train, airplane, or other mode of transportation, everyone fears having an accident. High profile deaths, such as James Dean’s fatal wreck in his Porche Spyder at the age of 24 haunt people’s minds, reminding them of lives cut short and the danger that can sometimes come with transportation.

Chevrolet unveils New Colorado Show Truck in Bangkok [Video]

Posted in Automotive, Video by: TimothyT on: 03/22/2011 11:48 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

We showed you some preview images of the next Colorado and here is the official launch video. Hopefully they change this some more, it looks great from the front but as you work your way to the rear it really looks like…. Ass. I owned one of these when they came out so I know what I am talking about. The I5 was underpowered and the build quality was terrible. This still needs work from the outside and that’s assuming they fixed the engine and quality. I am rooting for them. Lot of horrible splicing in this video and boring “we rock” talk so jump to 6:20 to get right to it. The photos we posted yesterday are a better bet.

Chevrolet Unveils Colorado Show Truck

Posted in Automotive by: TimothyT on: 03/21/2011 11:11 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Chevrolet today revealed the Colorado Show Truck in advance of the Bangkok International Auto Show, where it is making its global public debut. The concept previews the next-generation Colorado midsize pickup truck, which will build on Chevrolet’s strong truck DNA and award-winning heritage. The Colorado goes on sale in Thailand later this year.

“Thailand is the world’s-largest market for midsize pickups, so this was the perfect location in which to unveil our new Colorado,” said Susan Docherty, vice president, GMIO Sales, Marketing and Aftersales. “Trucks have been part of Chevrolet’s core for nearly all of its 100-year history. The Colorado reinforces that heritage with expressive design, refinement and uncompromising capability.”

Porsche officially green lights "Cajun" production

Owning an Audi Q5 has been a dream. Great ride, handling, horsepower and overall build quality and at 22 MPG, it’s hard to complain about anything. As a fan of the Porsche Cayenne SUV but being out of my price range for a daily driver, the green light of the Porsche Cajun is good news to me. It will be a Q5 based crossover SUV or a smaller version of the popular Cayenne. Sadly you won’t be seeing it until late next year or early 2013. We don’t know what it will look like but it does not seem like it would take much to give it a Porsche look, perhaps the front and rear of the car giving it most of the appearance that it needs. The thumbnail you see here is a rendering from TopSpeed.com. Read on for the press release:

2011 Dodge Charger R/T vs. The General Lee [Video]

Posted in Automotive, Video by: TimothyT on: 03/15/2011 08:40 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Edmunds once again does a great little video comparing 2 cars that should never really be compared. At the end of the day we all know the General Lee is still much cooler than the recently redesigned Charger but it’s still fun to see how 40 years later the differences are actually pretty minor in the performance area. Have a look:

Ferrari Targets Fast-Lane Families With $359,000 FF Supercar

Ferrari SpA, Fiat SpA’s most profitable unit, will target wealthy families and golf bag- toting sports-car enthusiasts when it introduces the four-seat FF, the first Ferrari with four-wheel drive.

Ferrari aims to build 800 of the FF annually, with the first year of production already sold out, Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said in Geneva today. The car will be priced at 260,000 euros ($359,000).

“Four-wheel drive is a revolution for Ferrari,” said Fabio Barone, 38, chairman of the Passione Rossa owners’ club, who has two Ferraris. “You can finally drive a real Ferrari, with its extreme performance, to take your family skiing.”

Supercar sales are growing amid renewed optimism in the finance industry after the U.S. economy expanded 2.9 percent last year, the most in five years. U.S. sales of the world’s most expensive cars, a category that includes Ferraris and spans sticker prices from $200,000 to $400,000, may surge 146 percent this year after dropping 40 percent in 2010, according to Lexington, Massachusetts-based IHS Automotive.

Buick Sales Soar Past Lexus

Posted in Automotive by: TimothyT on: 03/07/2011 11:58 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

An air of hyperbole seems to float in the mainstream media about the success of General Motors, Chrysler and Ford. They cite things like earnings reports, repaying debt, you name it. But they don’t usually tackle the concrete sales of cars.

When you look at the numbers, one success story clearly stands above all: Buick outsold Lexus in February, for the second month in a row. Buick also outsold Mercedes-Benz (if you discount sales of the Sprinter work van), along with Audi and Acura. Only BMW outsold Buick on the strength of BMW’s new X3 SUV. The storied German brand topped Buick by 800 units.

The story, though, is Buick. With just four vehicles in showrooms — the Enclave crossover and the LaCrosse, Lucerne and Regal sedans — it has outsold the nearly unbeatable Lexus.

General Motor's first profit since 2004 caps turnaround year

Posted in Automotive by: TimothyT on: 02/24/2011 10:06 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

General Motors on Thursday reported its first annual profit since 2004, capping an impressive turnaround by the once-troubled automaker.

The profit stemmed from a rebound in U.S. sales, strong growth China -- now GM's largest market -- and a much lower cost structure after a 2009 trip through bankruptcy.

Toyota Motor Corp. recalled 2.17 million vehicles in the United States on Thursday to address accelerator pedals that could become entrapped in floor mats or jammed in driver's side carpeting.

The world's No. 1 auto company said more than half of the vehicles under recall are being added to a massive 2009 recall that fixed gas pedals getting trapped in the floor mat.

These vehicles include:

  • 2009 Toyota 4Runner (603,000 units)
  • 2004-2006 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid (397,000 units)
  • 2006-2010 Toyota RAV4 (761,000 units)
  • 2008-2011 Lexus LX 570 (17,000 units)
  • 2006-2007 Lexus GS 300 and 350 all-wheel-drive models (20,000 units)

  • Ford to Recall F-150 Pickups Over Air Bags

    Posted in Automotive by: TimothyT on: 02/23/2011 12:53 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Under government pressure, Ford Motor Co. said Wednesday it will recall nearly 150,000 F-150 pickup trucks to fix air bags that could deploy without warning.

The recall covers trucks from the 2005-2006 model years in the United States and Canada for what the auto company calls a "relatively low risk" of the air bag deploying inadvertently.

The recall, however, is much smaller in scope than what the government had requested. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, citing 77 injuries, told the company in a November 2010 memo that the recall should cover 1.3 million F-150 trucks from the 2004-2006 model years.

3 dorks charged in auto show vandalism spree

    Posted in Automotive by: TimothyT on: 02/18/2011 02:37 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Check out these morons. By looking at the photos, one could assume that the gene pool isn’t the greatest here, but to vandalize property because of jobs going overseas shows exactly what happens when kiddies today are so unaware of the obvious. Many Toyotas are assembled in the United States including the 3 brands they targeted while American cars are often not assembled in the United States. It’s a blurry line and just about everyone should know that.

Marked-Up: Dealers Listing Chevy Volts for as Much as $65,590. LOL

    Posted in Automotive by: TimothyT on: 02/17/2011 10:38 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

In case you don't lose enough money on your car, here is a chance to lose even more. I am betting these cars are going into collections in the hope that they become collector items. Good luck with that.

    Quote from the article:

A couple auctions of the new Chevrolet Volt have appeared on eBay Motors, including one from a dealer in Southern California and another in Michigan.

General Motors is trying to prevent dealer markups on the Volt, but as GM’s Tony DiSalle told Ward’s Auto, “there isn’t a mechanism to prevent that from happening.”

Currently, the Buy It Now listing from the dealer in Michigan is priced at $46,923, while the California dealer has Volts starting at $47,700 for the Buy It Now price. Look beyond eBay and you might find prices even higher. A dealer in North Carolina says it bought a Volt from a Maryland dealer and is now listing the car at $49,000. If that’s not high enough, a dealer in Florida has a Volt that’s listed at $65,590.

Dodge brand will abandon the cross-hair gille

Dodge vehicles eventually will abandon the split cross-hair grille now that Ram is a separate brand.

The cross-hair grille will remain the key styling element for Ram trucks.

"It takes time. We will evolve the products," Ralph Gilles, CEO of the Dodge brand and Chrysler Group's chief designer, said at the Chicago Auto Show.

I was waiting for this. While I loved my Tahoe and really enjoy my Ford Raptor (yeah, I am all over the place) I really wanted something with muscle that I could drive every day, tow and enjoy luxury as well. This should do it. I was actually looking for new info on this yesterday knowing it was coming as a 2012 vehicle. 0-60’s in the 4’s, 1\4 mile in the 12’s? Hell and yes. After getting rid of my Challenger and Viper and not owning a Mopar truck in years, Dodge is going to get me back in the showrooms!

Two-time Formula DRIFT champion Tanner Foust is stepping away from Formula DRIFT series competition for the 2011 season to focus on increased television commitments and a packed rallycross competition schedule.

"The past seven years of drifting with Formula D were incredible and I owe a lot to the sport that helped launch my professional career," said Foust. "I still believe it is one of the best places for grassroots racers to find their professional legs and learn to make a living behind the wheel."

He described it as smaller than the Ford Explorer making us wonder if this is a the European model headed this way as the new Ford Escape? Since the Escape was supposed to be built from the Kuga, I can’t imagine how it looks like this now. If you know what it might be, leave a comment!

A reader left a comment that it looks like the Australian Ford Territory, see a photo of that after the jump.

Ferrari bows to Ford pressure, calls race car F150th Italia

    Posted in Automotive by: TimothyT on: 02/10/2011 11:40 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Ferrari has reacted quickly to the threat of legal action from Ford Motor Co. by renaming its 2011 Formula One car the F150th Italia.

The name emerged on the Ferrari Web site on Thursday in a routine story about progress with the car at the Jerez, Spain, test. Ferrari also republished its Jan. 25 story--in which the F150 name was first announced--exactly as before but with the new name in place.
