Norway's Petter Solberg led the Rally of Mexico into the second leg on Saturday while former Formula One champion Kimi Raikkonen crashed out.
Citroen filled the top four places at the end of the first day of action on the mountain roads around Leon, with France's Sebastien Ogier 15 seconds behind Solberg.

As crews returned to Leon for Friday's midpoint service, Petter Solberg holds a commanding lead of Rally Mexico, with a 17.1sec advantage over the man in second place, Sebastien Ogier. As expected, road positions on this morning's dry and dusty stages proved critical to success, with Solberg and Ogier capitalising on their respective positions of fifth and eighth and befitting from a racing line swept of loose gravel by the cars ahead.

Mercedes DTM team in negotiations for Coulthard and Schumacher

Mercedes are yet to confirm whether Ralf Schumacher is going to continue in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. But according to Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug, the deal is close. "I think that we have come close to making a decision. The decision will be announced as soon as it has been made. Currently, however, the deal is not yet home and dry," said Haug.

Former F1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen has admitted that he is not missing the top flight since departing the fray at the end of last season to make his full-time bow in the World Rally Championship (WRC) with the Red Bull-backed Citroën Junior Team this year – as he revealed that not only is rallying a friendlier environment, but it is a more challenging one into the bargain.

Allan McNish is eager to regain the Le Mans 24 Hours crown from Peugeot this year, following today's announcement that he will again partner Tom Kristensen and Dindo Capello in an Audi R15.
McNish and Audi were beaten by the French manufacturer in last year's race, but the Scot is determined to return successfully in the R15's second year.

In a suprise peice of news I read today is that the reigning BTCC Champion in Colin Turkington as the main sponsor of the WSR team in the RAC are to scale back its sponsorship of the team, which could result in not enough cash to run the team at a top level.

SEAT has withdrawn its factory team from the World Touring Car Championship. The Spanish manufacturer had been expected to quit the series since the end of last season, but delayed its final decision until this week.

Lured by its proximity to racetracks, a sports car racing team has opened up shop in Martin County.
Extreme Speed Motorsports, owned by veteran race car driver Scott Sharp, will run his team out of a building on Jack James Drive near Stuart. The team will race a Ferrari 430 GTC in the American Le Mans Series. Racing sports cars in the United States and Canada, Le Mans drivers conduct endurance and sprint events that last from 100 minutes to 12 hours.

Italian rider Luca Manca is in intensive care after falling off his motorbike in northern Chile on Thursday during the sixth stage of the Dakar Rally being run in South America, a hospital spokesman said.
Manca was in ninth position in the general classification when he came off his KTM bike during the Antofagasta to Iquique leg in the far north.
