If there was ever a doubt that Consumer Reports readers should not have their opinions published, or that you should take their ratings seriously, this is it. Toyota came in tops in the 2010 Consumer Reports Car Brand Perceptions Survey. That's right, the car company who set records in recalls in the past year as well as admitted to quality problems comes in first in the hearts of the latest Consumer Reports poll. I have laughed for years at the rankings from readers of this magazine and the laughs continue. Congratulations Consumer Reports readers on being some of the stupidest consumers around and not being afraid to show it... over and over and over again. Enjoy your subscription.

Leaving bait in an aircraft in Bear Country is about a stupid as a one legged man entering an ass kicking contest. During a private "fly-in" fishing excursion in the Alaskan wilderness, the chartered pilot and fishermen left a cooler and bait in the plane. And a bear smelled it. This is what he did to the plane. The pilot used his radio and had another pilot bring him 2 new tires, 3 cases of duct tape, and a supply of sheet plastic. He patched the plane together, and FLEW IT HOME!

Sometime back, it was reported that Americans responded to surveys about their new small cars (you know, the ones they traded out of SUV's for) and the overwhelming response was that they wanted back to a larger vehicle. We expect this will actually sell more crossovers since they are bigger without the 12 MPG pain you WILL feel again when gas goes up. Last we checked, gas rarely goes down. Buy oil stocks now and enjoy the ride at everyone else's expense. If you can't afford stocks and need a new affordable ride, hang in there, expect the market to reverse and become oversaturated with fuel efficient cars. I would expect to see this around spring after the long, cold winter.

Any car nut is familiar with this fascinating story. It is widely believed that there never was any such thing as a Tucker convertible. Frankly, there is not much else to say on this issue, but the seller wants you to believe this is a one of a kind Tucker, making it worth a small fortune if true. No one can find documentation on this car and the club has asked for the engine serial number and data plate information without any response. So, to the many of you considering paying that small fortune for this car, keep in mind that the question of its authenticity will follow it around forever. If it can be proven that it was a concept car as claimed, then the value should go beyond a small fortune. Here is their official statement...

The Segway: Coming to cycle path near you?

Posted in Other by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 01/12/2010 06:40 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

Britain is considering allowing Segways on bicycle paths. Why not? As a Segway owner, I constantly see people on bicycles ignoring the rules of the road, riding outside of bicycle lanes and generally acting like they own the road. Segways are a very small segment of the market, after all when was the last time you even saw one on the road? With a price tag of around $5,000, a range of only 12 miles and a recharge time of 8 hours, I doubt you will see the roads flooded with these things anytime soon. They are used as in many cases as a toy or for handicapped people. Seems like a no brainer.

A Washington state blood center is offering donors a deal: Give a pint of blood, get a pint of beer.
Cascade Regional Blood Services in Tacoma says its "Give blood, get beer" promotion has worked so well that it's being expanded. The News Tribune of Tacoma reported Monday that donors who are at least 21 years old are given a coupon for a free pint of beer. Participating pubs and restaurants must wait at least four hours after the blood drive ends before donors can collect their free pint.
Cascade's director of donor resources Dan Schmitt says it's a fun way to get more donors, and it's good for the participating businesses as well.
