17th Annual Vettes On The Beach at Sylvan Beach N.Y

It was cloudy. It rained. It was windy. The sun came out. Sound like a typical day in Central New York? Not if you were at historic Sylvan Beach for the 17th Annual Vettes On The Beach. Corvettes come from all around and get the opportunity to park and show off their prized Corvettes in the park and along the water. We have the story and some great photos to enjoy!

Vettes on the Beach is more then just a car show, it is a charity event. 14 charities alone benefited from this show last year! Sylvan Beach features sandy beaches, picnics, boating, amusement park, outstanding camping facilities, marinas, bars and restaurants, cottage rentals, some of the finest fishing in Central New York, (Bassmasters comes every year and is televised) beautiful sunsets on Oneida Lake and more all in a tiny, classic town.

Many waited until 10 or 11:00 AM, a few hours before the rain was expected to move out but they showed up! They came in the rain and wiped off their cars. It rained on them again and they wiped off their cars again. Finally, the afternoon ended in beautiful sunshine and 78 degree temperatures. The 2009 show had about 478 cars. This year, the weather could not stop that record from being broken. 504 cars showed up for 2010 and the Syracuse Corvette Club signed 16 new members! I met people from Maryland, Virginia, Ontario Canada, New Jersey and as far away as Northern Florida. Last year’s previous winner of “Longest Distance” from Ft. Walton Beach was narrowly beat out this year! 50\50 raffles were held and giveaways for registrants. The registrant giveaways were superb and included jewelry, custom exhaust systems and so much more from local businesses who gave so much for this charity event during these trying times. Booths were setup to purchase cleaning products, check out performance parts and more. At 1:00 P.M everyone revved their engine for Diane Vogler, a member who died last year and that was something to hear! I hope some of her family was there to hear it. The 2010 ZR1 suprised everyone with it's loud, stock sound and even blew over the chair that was sitting behind it!

18 awards were given out in total including Major Sponsor, Choice Sponsor and Participant Awards. I got lucky and my ZR1 was given the choice award from the Sylvan/Verona Beach Resort Association. That was unexpected, thank you! I hope you enjoy the photos and if you are in Central New York next year, maybe we will see you at the 18th Vettes On The Beach!
