We are not quite sure whether we should applaud or denigrate those who go for private number plates but we do feel slightly uncomfortable about the character of a person who uses one to boast about their fuel economy.
We spotted this private plate on a Toyota Prius in the heart of London, right by Carnaby Street. As you can see from the plate the owner is proud to tell us that he or she is getting a very creditable 59mpg from his petrol electric, congestion charge-busting Prius.
Now, here's a thing. The official average combined figure for the Prius is 72.4mpg and even the figure for urban driving is 70.6mpg. We think this plate represents a rather humble boast: maybe this is the owner's real-world fuel economy.
Still, we hope the owner didn't pay too much for the plate because, let's face it, it's a bit sad...
