Ford's new compact MPV

Wearing the same colour as the iosisMAX concept that starred at this year's Geneva Motor Show, the new C-MAX compact SUV will debut on the Ford stand in five-seat format at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

While the showroom ready MPV shares little else with March's show car, it's still a looker in our book, sharing much with Ford's stylish S-MAX. We're not sure if there'll be a place for that car eventually though, as word is that there'll be an elongated, seven-seat version of the C-MAX with sliding rear doors.

For now all we have are these few images and scant details. Ford seems particularly proud of the C-MAX's interior quality and ambience, so it's obviously aiming to take the fight to VW on that front. Drivers will be as keen to hear about Ford's new range of EcoBoost engines. The C-MAX will mark the arrival of a 1.6-litre version employing direct petrol injection and turbocharging, which probably gives it the performance of a conventional 2.0-litre with fuel economy and emissions not much worse than a regular 1.6-litre engine.

We'll find out more in Frankfurt.
