Used Motorcycle Dealership Owner Charged With Grand Theft And Passing Bad Checks
The owner of a used motorcycle dealership in Sunnyvale has been charged with grand theft and passing bad checks, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
The California Department of Motor Vehicles arrested Robin Tolleson, 48, Monday following an investigation revealing he had embezzled 22 customers between 2007 and 2009.
As the owner and manager of Rider's Choice Used Bike Warehouse, Tolleson sold used motorcycles on consignment, according to the district attorney's office. The investigation shows that when he sold a client's motorcycle, he would pay the client the amount set forth in a consignment agreement. However, he is suspected of selling numerous motorcycles on consignment and embezzling the proceeds totaling more than $65,000 rather than paying the consignors. In some cases, Tolleson allegedly gave bad checks to consignors who demanded their payment.
If convicted, Tolleson faces a maximum sentence of four years and eight months in prison.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 14.
