Alister McRae returns to Mitsubishi WRC
Former British Rally Champion Alister McRae will take a trip down memory lane next month, when he drives for the Rugby-based MML Sports nee Ralliart Mitsubishi team again.
McRae teamed up with Frenchman Francois Delecour to front Mitsubishi’s 2002 World Rally Championship campaign, with the Scot collecting the team’s strongest result of the season with what was a Lancer in transition from the all-conquering days of Tommi Makinen and the Group A machine and new WRC regulations. When McRae steps aboard a Lancer again in Wiltshire, England, however, he will notice quite a difference from the first to the last Lancer WRC. The car he will drive next month is one which MML Sports has continued development with since Mitsubishi withdrew from the top level of the sport at the end of 2005. McRae will also drive MML’s Group N Lancer Evolution X.
McRae, who has driven at Rallyday before, said: “I’m looking forward to being back at Castle Combe. The last time I was there was in 2005 and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so it should be fun this year. In fact, especially as I will be driving the two Mitsubishi rally cars. I have a huge amount of fond memories of the World Rally Championship with Mitsubishi and it will be fantastic to catch up with the team and drive the WRC car and the Evo X.
