As New York auto insurance rates continue drop, drivers still pay country third highest premiums
ALBANY - In a good news-bad news report, New York's auto insurance rates continue to drop - but drivers still pay the third highest premiums in the country.
New York drivers paid an average premium of $1,179 in 2007, the last year for which information was available, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners said in an annual report.
That was down 2.8% from $1,213 in 2006, slightly higher than the 2.6% national average decline. The national average is $912.
New Jersey motorists, who have paid the highest premiums in the country for years, have slipped to number two at $1,228, down 4.5% from 2006.
Louisiana, at $1,262, leapfrogged over New Jersey into the top spot.
