Audi set to build 1,000 e-trons
Audi plans to build 1,000 units of its e-tron R8-based electric sports car that made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The e-tron will be available to buy in 2012 but it will be more expensive than the R8 models. They will be made to order and Audi says that if there isn't a demand it will stop short of the 1,000 production run.
The 313bhp sports car is powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel, and uses composite bodywork over an aluminium spaceframe chassis. The idea is similar to the Tesla roadster and is aimed at wealthy types keen to do their bit for the environment.
