Scott, a West Point graduate with an MBA from Duke, was killed in an officer-involved shooting at a Las Vegas Costco on July 10, and family and friends say they have little information about what actually occurred. "The message is a very provocative message," said one of the family's attorneys, Lisa Mayo. "I think his friends and his military buddies and everybody put it out there to be provocative to get people moving." Scott's brother is a Long Beach resident and some of his friends live in the Orange County area. They say they chose the U.S. Open of Surfing because of the massive crowds drawn to the beach and the media attention it generates, Mayo said. "Really the effort with the Scott family is just to try to keep this issue in the pubic, especially in Nevada," she said. |
