Bad Cop - Lies to get search warrant against Hells Angel associate
A judge has tossed drug and weapon charges against a reputed associate of the Hell's Angels biker group, citing concerns about a Newport Beach police detective's honesty.
Brian David Heslington, 37, of Costa Mesa was stabbed in the neck during a July 2008 brawl outside a Balboa Peninsula bar, and police raided his home about one week later, using his ties to the Hell's Angels as grounds for a search warrant.

| Cocaine and a gun were found, according to prosecutors, and Heslington faced several felony charges. The case began to unravel last year when Kristen O'Donnell, a Newport Beach police officer, testified she'd filed a sealed portion of the warrant with the court. Later, citing a memory lapse, she recanted. "Her testimony was either intentionally false or done with reckless disregard of the truth," Orange County Superior Court Judge Richard M. King said in a ruling this week. However, "the most troubling aspect of this case" has to with O'Donnell photocopying a court certification and submitting it to the court with uncertified paperwork, King said, according to court minutes. |
