Bad Cop: NFTA officer punched by police prompts investigation
A transit police officer who approached several off-duty Buffalo police officers in a Lancaster bar last weekend to warn them that they were being photographed was punched in the face, prompting an investigation by the Buffalo Police Department's internal affairs division.

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority officer was allegedly sucker punched when he tried to calm the city officers who were behaving in a rowdy manner after stopping at Page's Grill and Bar on Transit Road, following the annual Buffalo Police Benevolent Association Awards Dinner Friday night at Salvatore's Italian Gardens on Transit, authorities said Wednesday. The transit officer, who was off duty and believed to be in civilian attire, observed civilians taking cell phone photographs or videos of "tomfoolery" involving the city officers, who were still dressed in the police uniforms they had worn to the dinner, according to sources familiar with the investigation. It is against departmental regulations for city officers to consume alcohol while wearing their uniform, though an unwritten exception is made for the annual awards dinner because it is held in a private setting, away from the public. |
