Three Fort Lauderdale police employees were reassigned as the department investigates allegations that they allowed a dog to lick from a peanut butter jar and put the jar back where colleagues could later use it, a police spokesman said Friday.

"There could be possible criminal charges as well as privacy violations," said Police Sgt. Frank Sousa, addressing allegations first made public in the South Florida Times.

The three are police aide Stacy Jenkins, Sgt. Kim Logan-Hancock and Detective Kerrie Hagerty. All three have been reassigned and are not allowed in their previous work areas without an escort, Sousa said.

We should mention that according to the Sun Sentinel, Hagerty was commended at least twice by the department, receiving a lifesaving award in 2007 for helping prevent a suicide and an officer of the month award in March 2006 for chasing a man waving a rifle from his car window.

While we often pick on silly things cop do, we do want to point out the positive side when we have the information.
