Bikers vow to stay out of Myrtle Beach
Friday was the first official day of the spring Harley Bike Rally on the Grand Strand, though you might not have noticed. As it does every year, the event lasts for one week through next weekend. But it's slowly becoming a different rally than years past.
Bikers say the now one-year old Myrtle Beach motorcycle laws have turned many away. It's still early, but bikers don't seem to be coming in the same numbers as in years past.

Quote from the article:
| "It's light, very light," described Mike Hall, who has been a regular at these bike rallies for around a decade. He's right, as major Grand Strand roadways are noticeably thinner. Bikers say, when it comes to Myrtle Beach, they'll go. That is, go around. "Now we decide that Myrtle Beach doesn't want us. Well we don't want Myrtle Beach, so we just go around Myrtle Beach," said Hall, who moved to Horry County ten years ago with his wife, Kelly. They based part on their decision to move to the area on their love for the bike rally events or what they used to be. Bikers say they'll be frequenting other Grand Strand communities this year. "Garden City and North Myrtle Beach," said Mandy Edwards from Lancaster, SC. "No in-between. We stay out of Myrtle Beach best we can. They don't like us down there and we don't like them," she continued. "If they don't want us there, we won't go," said Terry Faircloth, also from Lancaster. He added, "We'll go to North Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet." "Murrells Inlet, Garden City, Surfside, North Myrtle Beach and miss Myrtle Beach all together," said Wendell Elliott, from Lancaster. And it's really no secret why bikers have decided to go around Myrtle Beach. "If they ditch (the motorcycle helmet) law, we'll be back in Myrtle Beach," said Faircloth. "Until they change the laws back, that's just the way it's going to be," added Elliott. |
