BMW Team Schnitzer will start seventh and 11th in Spa
At the beginning of the second half of qualifying, Müller was on a flying lap as the session was red-flagged following an accident. Werner had already set his personal fastest lap times at that point. After a 12-minute break, qualifying resumed with Müller having some six minutes left to set a competitive lap time. On his used tyres he was unable to equal the pace of his first run, but still managed to claim a midfield grid position. The Spa-Francorchamps 1000-kilometre race will start on Sunday at 11:30hrs local time (10:30hrs BST). Jörg Müller (DE) and Uwe Alzen (DE) will join Werner at the wheel of the no. 78 car. Dirk Müller will share the no.79 BMW M3 GT2 with Andy Priaulx (GB) and Augusto Farfus (BR).
Charly Lamm (Team Manager):
“It’s the first time we have run two BMW M3 GT2 cars in this specification here. Bearing this in mind, we are quite satisfied with today’s results. We had a very productive day. Every lap is important for us in order to test and improve our cars. In terms of performance we are not yet where we want to be. However, a lot can happen in the race. I think we should be able to benefit from our quick pit stops, our consistent driver line-up and the excellent fuel efficiency of our cars.”
Dirk Werner (Car Number 78):
“I’m happy with our qualifying. We have been able to improve throughout the whole weekend. The field is very close, and the gap to the cars in front of us is not too big. Therefore I’m full of confidence for the race. In Le Castellet we were able to gain some places as the race progressed. Our fast pit stops turned out to be a major advantage. This should be the case again.”
Dirk Müller (Car Number 79):
“Before the red flags came out, I had been on my way to setting a far better lap time. I was able to make full use of our Dunlop tyres at their best. But then the accident and the following break destroyed my progress. Considering the circumstances, I put in the best performance possible after the restart. However, this was not enough to challenge for top positions.”
