BTCC :: HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship

Matt Neal has got himself into full fighting mode ready for the season’s second half showdown with a martial arts qualification!

Vauxhall ace Neal, challenging for a third British Touring Car Championship crown this year, has just gained his First Dan certificate in Free Fighting – a legitimate form street combat.

The 42-year-old achieved the qualification after practicing relentlessly for up to four mornings a week for the past year and has already begun training for his Second Dan (out of a possible six).

Neal, who once trialled as a front row forward for England’s Under-19 rugby union squad, is now getting set for the second half of the HiQ-backed BTCC season. He lies second in the standings, 25 points behind Team RAC BMW rival Colin Turkington going into the forthcoming event at Snetterton, Norfolk (2 August) with VXR team-mate Fabrizio Giovanardi and Jason Plato, his long-time arch enemy in his Racing Silverline Chevrolet, close behind.
