Button crowned at FIA Gala

Jenson Button was officially presented with his world championship trophy at the FIA Gala in Monaco on Friday night.
His former team boss Ross Brawn collected the constructors' honours on behalf of Brawn GP.

Sebastian Vettel and Rubens Barrichello also attended to pick up their trophies for finishing second and third in the standings.

Button said seeing his name on the champion's trophy made the success of 2009 really sink in.

“I am honoured to be here in Monaco this evening to collect the drivers’ championship trophy and to see my name engraved alongside the famous racing legends of the past," he said.

"Motor racing has been a part of my life since my father bought my first go-kart at the age of eight and to have achieved my dream of becoming world champion makes me incredibly proud."

He also paid tribute to Brawn's achievements this year in what turned out to be its sole season between being sold off by Honda and then taken over by Mercedes.

“This has been a fantastic year for myself and Brawn GP," Button said.
