Chevrolet Equinox Production Begins at Oshawa Assembly, Increasing Equinox and GMC Terrain Capacity
The plan utilizes excess capacity from the new CAMI body shop to transport additional Equinox bodies from Ingersoll to Oshawa for paint and final assembly. The Oshawa facility also produces the Chevrolet Impala. Moving some Equinox production to Oshawa allows the CAMI plant to increase GMC Terrain volume. CAMI continues to operate on three shifts with scheduled overtime.
This will be the third production increase for the Equinox and Terrain, adding capacity to build 60,000 to 80,000 more vehicles for the Canadian and U.S. markets.
Customer demand has made the Equinox and Terrain two of the hottest-selling compact crossovers on the market. In the U.S., the average "days to turn" is just 11 days for Equinox, and 12 days for Terrain. This compares to an average of 29 days for all compact SUVs, and 49 days for the industry average.
“The incredible efforts of the teams at CAMI and Oshawa will better enable us to meet soaring customer demand for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain,” said Kevin Williams, president and managing director of GM of Canada.
