Competition offers gamers a GT drive
Motorsport and computer gaming fans have the opportunity to race for real in the 2010 European GT4 Cup, through a competition run by Nissan and Sony.
The Japanese manufacturer has teamed up with the Playstation 3 maker for the GT Academy 2010, which will take its winner from driving on a console to behind the wheel of a race-spec Nissan 370Z for a full championship season.
The competition will use an online version of the new Gran Turismo 5 game, in which competitors will set flying laps. The 20 fastest times from each participating country will qualify for national finals, where the field will then be narrowed to 20 winners. They will undertake a five-day racing boot camp at Silverstone, from which the winner will be crowned.
Last year's inaugural GT Academy champion, 23-year-old Spaniard Lucas Ordonez, contested the Dubai 24 Hours in Nissan 350Z, alongside former grand prix driver Johnny Herbert, and went on to finish runner-up in the GT4 Cup.
