The Stony Point woman accused of running over her husband in a drunken-driving incident Sunday was at a neighborhood bar with him before the accident, town police said Monday. Kelly McElroy, 31, is accused of having a blood-alcohol level double the legal limit when she ran over her husband, Glenn, 27, in the couple's Toyota Camry about 1:15 a.m. Sunday. Glenn McElroy remained in critical condition Monday night.

| McElroy later was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 percent, or double the legal limit for driving while intoxicated, police said. She was charged with vehicular assault , a felony; and driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.08 percent. McElroy was released from the county jail Monday evening on $25,000 bond. Paramedics said Glenn McElroy was found about halfway under the couple's Toyota Camry and appeared to have suffered serious head injuries. Ray Florida, executive director of Rockland Paramedic Services, said McElroy was taken to Nyack Hospital in critical condition after a trip to Westchester Medical Center was deemed too risky. More than 24 hours after the incident, much of what led to Glenn McElroy's injury remained unclear. Police said Monday that the investigation was continuing and that they were still interviewing family members. Police said interviews with neighbors in the area of the incident failed to turn up any eyewitnesses. Lt. Brian Moore said that as far as he knew, police had not responded to any domestic calls at the McElroys' home. |
