Cops shoot handicapped man in NYC
A police officer opened fire on a disabled man who was wielding a knife after a tense standoff in Brooklyn, cops and witnesses said Saturday.
The 19-year-old suspect, who has a problem with his right arm, was shot once in the lower abdomen and was rushed to Kings County Hospital, police said. He is expected to survive.
Quote from the article:
The drama unfolded shortly after cops received a 911 call at 11:30 p.m. Friday reporting that a man wearing a yellow shirt was spotted carrying a gun on an East Flatbush block, according to police said. When officers arrived at the Linden Blvd. apartment building, they were flagged down by a man who said he was being chased, police said. As the cops were interviewing the distraught man, another man with a yellow shirt approached them, clutching a knife. The cops identified themselves as police officers and ordered the man to drop the knife, police said. When he refused, one cop used his pepper spray on the man, which appeared to have no effect, police said. As the man continued to stalk toward them, a female cop fired a single shot, sending the man toppling to the sidewalk. |
