Cracks prompt BMW wheel review
This is a story that sparked my interest as it was only in November 2009 that I had a service on my car (Fiat Bravo 150T Sport) and one of the things noticed was that a front tire had a crack in it, luckily on further inspection it was found that no cracks where in the alloy wheel, unlike what BMW owners are finding of late.
Quote from the article:
I am just wondering if the spate of speed humps and speed tables on UK roads is having something to do with this, with many high end cars having low and ultra low profile tires, there is not much of a cushion of rubber from road to alloy and over time could the alloy become weak!?
Keeping my eye on this to see how it progresses.

Quote from the article:
| BMW does a U-turn on suspect alloys and promises a full investigation. Hit a kerb hard, or clobber a pothole, and you might expect to crack one of your car's alloy wheels, but what if the damage occurs without any obvious cause? That's a situation which has faced many BMW 3 Series owners recently. Gareth Conyers contacted What Car? after needing three replacement alloys for his 3 Series since October 2008. Another 3 Series owner, Richard Carter, wrote to us after his Convertible suffered two cracked alloys. |
