Crash catapults rider through air
A 28-YEAR-OLD Toowoomba man somersaulted through the air after crashing a motorbike near Cambooya yesterday.

A RACQ CareFlight spokesman said the man, who was airlifted to Toowoomba Hospital, was riding a motorbike on a dirt track next to the New England Highway at 4.15pm when he hit a ditch and crashed.
The spokesman said the man landed heavily and sustained serious injuries.
He had suspected spinal and internal injuries and a suspected broken pelvis.
The New England Highway was closed for about half an hour while the rider was loaded into the rescue helicopter.
Senior Constable Stephen Coote from Toowoomba’s Forensic Crash Unit said the man was riding a friend’s dual-purpose motorbike when the accident happened.
“From what we understand, he was riding on the highway and decided to move on to a gravel road next to the highway,” Snr Const Coote said.
The man then hit a ditch, which led to him losing control of the bike.
“He didn’t see the ditch and wasn’t able to take evasive action,” Snr Const Coote said.
The man was wearing protective clothing and Snr Const Coote said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the crash.
A RACQ CareFlight spokesman said the man was in a stable condition in Toowoomba Hospital last night.
