Dean Smith Wins McLaren/Autosport BRDC Award
Dean Smith, who won this year's Formula Renault UK Championship, has been named as the McLaren/Autosport BRDC award winner for 2009. He has received £50,000, which will go towards funding his racing next year, and also has the chance to test a McLaren-Mercedes F1 car.
Smith was one of six finalists who took part in a series of tests (including physical fitness and track assessment in several race cars) at Silverstone, while being judged by 1996 World Champion Damon Hill and others. "It’s just been a phenomenal year for me and this award caps off an incredible season,". he said afterwards. "I knew the competition would be tough so I just set out to be as professional as possible throughout the tests.
