A Cassia County district judge ruled a Burley man charged with child sex abuse will remain on probation Tuesday after he demonstrated an ability to pay for sex-offender treatment.
John Thomas Breeding Sr., 63, who calls himself “Biker Santa,” appeared coherent and groomed as he told the judge he had placed himself on a kidney transplant list and had undergone a rigorous budgeting process, including giving up smoking, to pay for the court-ordered treatment.

| Breeding’s probation will expire in July 2019. Crabtree told Breeding in an earlier hearing that putting his 1981 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle up for sale would go a long way in paying for treatment. “I’ve put my bike up for sale,” Breeding said. “Four-hundred dollars for that bike is a very cheap price and I can’t even get a bite on it for that.” Cassia County Public Defender Timothy Schneider said through budget counseling Breeding was able to free up $90 to $100 a month, which wouldbe enough to pay for the court-ordered treatments. Crabtree explained to Breeding there was no set number ofsex-offender treatment sessions and they would continue based on his progress. Breeding was charged in November 2008 with two counts of felony sex-abuse against a9-year-old child. He entered into a plea agreement that dismissed one of the charges. He was sentenced last July to a suspended three- to 12-year prison sentence with 10 years of supervised probation and sex-offender treatment. He was charged with a probation violation after he was suspended from the sex-offender treatment program for not attending sessions because he said he could not pay for them. |
