Driving Instructor Critical After Student Crashes

A driving instructor is in critical condition after the student he was teaching lost control of the car during a snow storm and struck a plow.

Keith Levesque, 37, of Haverhill had to be extricated from the passenger side of the car Saturday.
Police say the student driver was headed south on Amesbury Line Road about noon-time, when she lost control and struck the plow driven by Michael Sullivan, 57, of Haverhill.

Sullivan didn't want to comment on the crash because of the ongoing investigation, but did describe the road conditions as "very slick" that day and said the accident happened "right in the middle of the storm."

Sullivan provided WBZ with photos he took of the scene.

Levesque works for MV Auto School in Haverhill.

An employee there said the owner had no comment, when asked why lessons weren't cancelled on Saturday, but did say the school cancelled lessons on Sunday.

Drivers we talked with were shocked the school would have student drivers out in that kind of weather.

Tony Calderon said, " ;(It's) too slippery, especially if they're learning how to drive."

"That wasn't some place a student driver should have been," said Linda Noone of Reading.

"Absolutely not."

Manny Silva felt bad for the instructor.

"I personally wouldn't go out there and put myself in the passenger seat and get a kid who doesn't know how to drive."

The owner of another Haverhill driving school, who did not want to be identified, said he does sometimes bring kids out when it's snowing to get the some experience driving in it.

But he also admitted he canceled lessons on Saturday.

Police are not releasing the name of the student driver, who received only minor injuries.

No charges have been filed.
