Eco friendly Poo-powered car seen on Bristol streets [Video]

A "poo-powered" VW Beetle has taken to the streets of Bristol in an attempt to encourage sustainable motoring. The Bio-Bug runs on processed methane gas generated as part of the raw sewage treatment process.

Quote from the article:
I have to make a comment and the first thing that sprang to mind is that if Volkswagen decide to take this up a a viable car, then they need to rename the "Beatle" to "DungBeatle". However on the serious side apart from not knowing how this car would smell when driving around, as I have smelt a car run on old chip cooking fat before now and... well its pongs! is that it is a great idea and a renewable source of energy.
The Video is at the BBC Bristol page I linked to in the title.

Quote from the article:
| Engineers from Wessex Water estimate the waste from 70 homes would generate enough gas to run the car for 10,000 miles (16,100km). Despite being powered by fuel created from sewage, the car does not smell unpleasant. "It performs like a normal car - you wouldn't know it was powered by biogas," a company spokesman said. |
