Finally, an explanation why some jerks sit in the passing lane driving the speed limit (Poll)

Since I used to drive for a living and travel between NY and Florida occasionally, I often wonder why some idiot sits in the passing lane at the speed limit or slower seemingly just to annoy people. This guy gives us his explanation why. Bottom line is that he feels if he is doing the speed limit then he is fine and doing nothing wrong. I agree, if you’re in the right lane. According to his logic, we should make all roads single lanes, so everyone can simply do the speed limit. That would be a lot of fun in congested areas and rush hour, don’t you think? Also, many states have a “keep right except to pass” law meaning he is actually the one breaking the law. We have added an image showing what he is doing is illegal as well. Read on for this guys email as well as proof that he is breaking the law and for once we can all agree the other driver IS a dick.

Quote from the article:

A few days ago, I traveled to Jacksonville with a friend. I happened to be in the left lane of U.S. 17, a four-lane road. I always set my cruise control to the posted speed limit. I know slower traffic is supposed to stay in the right lane. My friend asked why I was driving so slow in the left lane. I told him I was going the speed limit. He said, you are also going too slow. I asked him, don’t I have the right to obey the law by driving the speed limit. He said yes, but the other drivers have the right to break the law. I don’t understand that logic.

Regardless of which lane I am in, if I am driving the posted speed limit, no one should be riding my bumper or flashing their lights at me to move over. Speeders will even hold up the middle finger or yell out their window at someone trying to drive the posted speed limit. Why do drivers become so brave when they get behind the wheel of a 3,000-pound vehicle? Most of them would not be so aggressive face-to-face.

I would like to see a program started to empower regular citizens to send evidence of aggressive driving and speeding into the traffic-court system. Resulting action would cause the speeders to have to pay $200 tickets. We could work with the unemployment offices to provide commission type jobs for unemployed people — $100 to the state or county and $100 commission to the person submitting the proof of the infraction. Provide onboard cameras or someway to capture the tag number and vehicle type of the law breaker at the same time verifying the enforcer vehicle speed. Make the ticket non-challengeable. This would require a lot of planning and coordination, but just think of the benefit to the unemployment situation across the country and the benefit to the tax base.
