Fisi takes shock Force India pole at Spa

Giancarlo Fisichella pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Formula 1 history by putting minnows Force India on pole position for the Belgian Grand Prix.

In an extraordinary qualifying session in which the normal F1 form book was turned upside down, Fisichella signalled his intentions by topping Q1, advanced all the way to the pole shootout and then edged out Toyota’s Jarno Trulli by less than 0.1s.

Nick Heidfeld took third on the grid, with team-mate Robert Kubica fifth, as BMW Sauber found pace seemingly from nowhere, while Rubens Barrichello was fastest of the championship contenders in fourth.

His Brawn GP team-mate Jenson Button was a shock casualty of Q2, complaining of rear-end instability on his Brawn, while Red Bull duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were surprisingly far down the order in eighth and ninth respectively.

Friday pace-setter Lewis Hamilton was another to fall at the Q2 hurdle and will start 12th in the lead McLaren
