Google's Schmidt: It's A Bug That Cars Were Invented Before Computers
What happens when you’re the CEO of a gigantic company like Google? You can say really, really stupid things and the people around you will agree. Google CEO was quoted as saying “Your car should drive itself. It just makes sense” as well as “It’s a bug that cars were invented before computers.” Well, there were no bugs in that sense before the computer. Hell, you could make that argument about almost anything. If the computer was born before many things life would be different.
I wonder if Eric Schmidt uses public transportation or does he fly private jets and car services? I assume the latter; otherwise he might know the joy of owning and driving your own automobile, as we do here. Even if my car could drive itself, I would still want to drive it. I get the big picture, this is Google looking into the future of the company, but I think he is a good 50-100 years early on this one.
