Hacker Remotely Disables 100 Vehicles - Faces 2 Years in Prison

Austin police have charged a former auto center employee with illegally accessing a computer system and disabling the cars or activating the horns of more than 100 customers, according to an arrest affidavit.

Quote from the article:
Omar Ramos-Lopez, 20, is charged with breach of computer security, a state jail felony for which he faces up to two years behind bars.

According to the affidavit, Ramos-Lopez worked for Texas Auto Care, which finances customer loans, installs GPS devices on financed cars and uses a Web site that allows them to deactivate the starter on cars when customers don’t make payments. The Web site also can allow workers to activate the car horn.
