HD Radio Technology Offered in Subaru's 2011 Forester
iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio Technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting, today announced that Subaru of America, Inc. will offer HD Radio Technology on the Premium Radio package in the 2011 Forester, making the automaker the first Japanese brand to offer the digital technology. The benefits for drivers are significant, which include crystal-clear sound quality (AM sounds like FM, FM sounds like a CD), additional local digital only FM channels (HD2/HD3/HD4), and program service data (name of songs and artists displayed on the radio screen). In addition, Subaru will be one of the first automakers to offer iTunes® Tagging.
"We are extremely pleased that a high-quality and growing brand such as Subaru has committed to offering their drivers the best in digital entertainment with the popular Forester model," said Jeff Jury, Chief Operating Officer of iBiquity Digital, the developer of digital HD Radio Technology. "Subaru has differentiated itself from the competitive Japanese automotive landscape by being the first to offer HD Radio Technology, along with iTunes Tagging, and we're confident that their customers will enjoy the expanded radio experience."
HD Radio Technology is available nationwide, with more than 2,000 digital stations on-air, and an additional 1,250 HD2/HD3/HD4 digital only channels that broadcast fresh new content that can only be heard with an HD Radio receiver. A sampling of the formats on these extra channels, which vary in different markets around the country, include Dance/Electronica, Bluegrass Country, Comedy, Local Music, Chill/Coffee Shop Music, South Asian, Talk, News, Sports and so much more.
iTunes Tagging enables consumers to capture information about a song they hear on the radio and store it on their iPod. When you hear a song you like on an HD Radio station, simply push the "Tag" button on your HD Radio receiver. The next time your iPod is connected to iTunes, a list of tagged songs will appear which can be previewed, purchased and downloaded.
The 2011MY Forester will go on sale in early November. To locate your nearest Subaru dealership, visit http://www.subaru.com .
