Head: Others also oppose 14th team

Patrick Head has insisted that Williams is not the only outfit objecting to the FIA's bid to expand the grid to 14 teams for 2010.

Williams has been the most vocal opponent of the proposal, which would allow the BMW Sauber team back into the sport after it lost its entry to the revived Lotus operation when BMW pulled out.

The Sauber squad was subsequently saved by the Qadbak investment group and was awarded a reserve place for 2010 if the FIA could not make the teams agree to allow an extra entry.

With no deal forthcoming so far, the Qadbak-owned squad's hopes of racing in 2010 currently depend on another team dropping out.

Williams engineering director Head denied that his team was the only one standing in Sauber's way and said that team boss Frank Williams was actually speaking for half the field when he recently went public with his objections.

"From what we understand there are at least half a dozen other team principals who have declared to us that they hold exactly the same [point of view]," Head said.
