IndyCar - Another close one
Dario Franchitti and Ryan Briscoe were clear of the first-lap jumble that entangled seven mid-pack cars in Turn 2. Scott Dixon, the points leader who started 10th in the Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma, wasn't as fortunate.
Though Dixon's No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car continued after the hit and run and he weaved from 15th on the 2.303-mile, 12-turn Infineon Raceway to 10th place (until literally being bumped to 13th on the white flag lap), the championship points lead now has changed 13 times in the 14 races.
The battle continues Aug. 29 with the PEAK Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300 under the lights at Chicagoland Speedway, where Briscoe will be the front-runner by four points over Franchitti. Dixon enters the 200-lap race 20 points back.
That was set up when Franchitti, the pole sitter in the No. 10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car, held off Briscoe on a Lap 71 restart and went on to his fourth victory of the season - by 0.2488 of a second.
"This is crucial for the championship," said Franchitti, who's finished 1, 2 and 3 in his most recent Infineon Raceway adventures.
