Infiniti M launched at Pebble Beach - Sky Motoring
Infiniti unveiled an all-new Infiniti M performance luxury saloon at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance over the weekend, which will go on sale in the UK next summer as a competitor to the BMW 5-Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6.
The first of two versions to go on sale in tthe UK, the M37 will be powered by a 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine – which can currently be found in the Nissan 370Z sports car – that should produce around 316bhp. This will be followed later in the year by the M30d, which will use a powerplant developed from Renault’s V6 diesel. A V8 petrol unit will also be available in other parts of the world.
More significantly, at the beginning of 2011 Infiniti will launch a petrol-electric hybrid M37, which will add a pair of electric motors to the petrol engine.
The new Infiniti M has been completely redesigned, with new styling that includes a low front end and sculpted wings inspired by the Infiniti Essence concept car shown in Geneva earlier this year.
Infiniti promises that the interior will reflect the brand’s luxury status, using high-quality materials and high-tech equipment.
There will also be a new safety feature, in the form of a Side-Collision Prevention (SCP) system, which is designed to alert the driver if another vehicle is detected during an intended lane change and help prevent a collision by moving the vehicle back toward the original lane.
