Italian police manage to write off one of their own £150,000 Lamborghinis

The £150,000 Gallardo super car which was just a year old and complete in blue and white police colours, was involved in a smash after being cut up.

Italian police were left embarrassed after one if its officers wrote off a £150,000 Lamborghini patrol car in a road smash.

The 200mph Gallardo ploughed into parked cars after it swerved to avoid another vehicle that had just pulled out of a petrol station.

It was being driven back from a special show for students when the accident happened near the city of Cremona.

Two police officers in the car escaped with only minor injuries. No-one else was hurt in the crash.
The 560bhp Lambo was one of two donated by the Italian firm to help police keep up with speeding motorists driving other supercars.

Police also use the vehicles to ferry transplant organs in specially fitted fridges.
The crashed car - resprayed in police livery - was returning to its base in Bologna after being shown to students when the crash happened.

Silvio Berlusconi wanted to add Ferraris and Porsches seized from Mafia dons to the fleet, but police chiefs ruled that maintenance would be too expensive.
