Kia Venga
Kia and Hyundai have been going from strength to strength in recent years, proving that Korean carmakers are now a real force to be reckoned with. You only had to look at their stands at Frankfurt for evidence of that: Kia’s, for example, was opposite Ford and was almost as big as the Blue Oval’s.
It was also full of interesting products, including its new supermini MPV, called Venga.
OK, let’s deal with the name first. No, Kia will never get any to Spurs fans to buy one. Yes, it will be another weapon in Kia’s arsenal. And yes, it is a lot better than the appalling Dutch Europop group from the late 90s.
Apparently, it’s taken from Spanish and means ‘Come on’, in the disbelieving sense. But based on Kia’s most recent cars, the Cee’d and Soul, there’s no reason to believe Venga will be anything but a real contender in the Fiesta/Corsa/Polo area of the car market.
The main reason is that it’s very cleverly packaged, offering the kinds of space you’d expect to find in a bigger car. It does this by having a longer wheelbase and wider track than its competitors and short overhangs at the corners. This means that there’s more space inside, with the high roofline adding decent levels of headroom to the extra legroom.
