Lamborghini Reventón roadster at Frankfurt
They don’t do launch cars like this any more. Except at Lamborghini. Smoke, glamorous girls and Stephan Winkelman, the CEO of Lamborghini with a penchant for impossibly tight suits and hair brushed back into a spectacular mullet.
For a moment the car takes second place, but the Reventón roadster is not a car that’s easy to overlook. Against an all-new Ferrari and the Mercedes SLS – not to mention the recently announced McLaren - Lamborghini has unexpected and unwanted competition in the exotica stakes.
But the raging bull isn’t about to lose its crown as the king of the supercar world and the crowds here are thick to see this, the convertible version of the strictly limited edition, 1.1 million-Euro (plus taxes) Reventón.
Basically the love child of an imagined tryst between a Murciélago and an F-22 Raptor stealth fighter, just 20 Reventón coupes were built. The last of these was delivered 10 months ago to a British-based owner.
Since then of course Lamborghini has revealed another extreme iteration of the Murciélago in the shape of the stripped out SuperVeloce, shown at Geneva earlier this year. This was meant to be the last gasp for the Murciélago but it seems Lambo couldn’t resist a final run of topless Reventóns.
