“Life Long” Dedicated Event Volunteers Win Replica Model Rally Cars
The winners of the Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino donated replica rally cars could not have gone to any more deserving rally volunteers. Corky Russell from Sammamish, WA and Carleton Foster from Shushan, NY each have been volunteering at their respective rallys and reliably fulfilling their Stage Captain’s needs for at least 10 years.
Corky and Carleton are the kind of “super” volunteers that Stage Captains rely on. For any rally event to function and operate smoothly takes hundreds of volunteers and it is no small feat for organizers to recruit and train rotating volunteer corps. However the job is made much easier when utilizing the help of the “super” volunteer to help stabilize a rally work force.
This special type of volunteer is one who has worked every conceivable rally position and will consistently come at a moment’s notice to fulfill a dire need. Stage Captains, the person who controls a competition stage, understands the importance of these types of volunteers because they can be plugged into any role with minimal training or supervision.
Volunteering at a rally can sometimes be a thankless job. Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino, Subaru Rally Team USA competitors, recognize that volunteers are the lifeblood of any rally event and that their own lives depend on these volunteers during competition.
With the help of Alex Gelsomino, a series of replica rally cars were commissioned. Ken and Alex then donated a pair of the replica rally cars to a raffle created by Rally America officials where volunteers at both the Olympus and Oregon Trail Rallies would submit entries to have a chance to win one of the cars, an exact copy of the 2007 Subaru WRX STi driven by 1995 WRC Champion Colin McRae at X Games 13, while event volunteers from the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally and the New England Forest Rally would have a chance to win the second replica rally car, an exact replica of the 2007 Subaru WRX STi driven by Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino
