Miami-Dade teacher jailed in DUI case won't be returning to class

A Miami-Dade elementary school teacher who allegedly threatened police when she was arrested on a drunk-driving charge earlier this month will not be returning to the classroom next week. Congratulations Miami!

Quote from the article:

Miami-Dade schools' spokesman John Shuster said Joann Tomas, a third-grade Spanish teacher at Dr. Williams Chapman Elementary school, has been reassigned to office work pending the disposition of her case.

Tomas, 42, was pulled over Aug. 4 after a police officer reportedly noticed her SUV swerving in and out of traffic on South Homestead Boulevard.

In his report, the officer noted that Tomas had "watery eyes, flushed face and slurred speech." The officer also noted that she had trouble finding her driver's license, needed help regaining her balance while getting out of the SUV and had to hold onto the vehicle to get her balance before walking.

Tomas was handcuffed and taken to jail but not before threatening the officer, police said. She stated, "I am taking your job, I am going to say you took my shirt off, lifted my skirt and touched my (expletive)," according to the arrest report.
