Michael Schumacher extends Ferrari contract

Retired seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher has extended his contract with Ferrari for three years, he said in a statement issued on his personal Web site.

Since retiring in 2006, Schumacher has worked as a consultant to the Italian automaker, giving his input to the race team and helping to develop various road cars--something that he will now continue to do.

"Yesterday, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and me agreed to extend our cooperation for another three years," Schumacher said. "I am very happy about this as I always liked to be part of the Ferrari family and as the name Ferrari also for me symbolizes passion, quality and sport.

"We agreed that I will give my input more and more into the GT department, the area of road cars. I enjoyed participating in the development of the Ferrari California, the 430 Scuderia and the new 458 Italia which we will present next Tuesday at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

"I very much look forward to participating in future projects."
