Mosley: Data indicated crash 'unusual'
Max Mosley has said that FIA’s early investigations into the telemetry data from Nelson Piquet’s car in last year’s Singapore Grand Prix did arouse suspicions that “something very unusual” happened in the Brazilian's controversial crash.
Renault faces the governing body’s World Motor Sport Council next week charged with ordering its former driver Piquet to cause a deliberate accident in last September’s night race with the aim of helping its other driver Fernando Alonso win the race.
FIA president Mosley, who was first made aware of the allegations by Nelson Piquet Sr in July, says the first analysis of the data made it “unthinkable” that the claims wouldn’t be fully investigated.
"Certainly the data from the car indicated that something very unusual had happened on the corner where he crashed – according to the experts who look at these things," Mosley said in an interview with the Guardian newspaper.
"So there was enough there to make it unthinkable not to investigate.”
