New York & Miami Boat Shows on the horizon

Now that winter-like weather has taken hold maybe we should start thinking of other ways to pass the time.

The New York Boat Show is one, and this year they moved it back to Jan. 20-24. It still is at the Jacob K. Javits Center.
The Boat Show's newest online offering allows attendees to pre-shop the show for the great deals on the newest boats by visiting www.NYBoatShow.com. You can plan ahead and search for boats by brand, model and scheduling dealer appointments on site or at the dealership.

If you want to think sun and warmth, the 69th annual Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail Miami runs Feb. 11-15, where new and experienced boaters throughout the world can gather in one place to view, board and buy the best the boating industry has to offer.

The five-day event draws thousands of visitors each year and hosts more than 2,000 exhibitors from around the world, filling the Miami Beach Convention Center and Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center with thousands of boats and hundreds of booths showcasing the latest gear and accessories. And for the first time, powerboat and sailing enthusiasts can gather in one location as Strictly Sail Miami moves from its traditional venue at Miamarina at Bayside to Sea Isle Marina, joining forces with the Miami International Boat Show's powerboat in-water portion.

The New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife is reminding saltwater anglers that the federal government's National Saltwater Angler Registry Program requires most New Jersey saltwater anglers to register before fishing in 2010.

You must register if you fish for or catch striped bass, shad, river herring in state tidal waters; or fish in Federal waters (more than three miles from shore).

You do not have to register if you are under 16 years of age, only fish on federally licensed party or charter boats or hold a Highly Migratory Species Angling Permit.

Online and telephone registration will begin Jan. 1, 2010. Register online at www.countmyfish.noaa.gov or call (888) 674-7411.

The registration is free in 2010, but will most likely cost you in the years following.
