Because of the increasing trend of women riding in the front seat -- not the back anymore -- of their favorite motorcycles, Harley-Davidson/Buell of Danbury is holding its first, free, women-only "Garage Party" from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 51 Federal Road in Danbury.

"Women have been steady customers. Four percent of Harley's purchased in 1990 were by women. That number skyrocketed to 12 percent in 2007,'' said Colleen Bursey, saleswoman at Harley-Davidson of Danbury, a motorcycle rider for more than 30 years. Some estimates put the actual tally of women versus men riding motorcycles at 25 percent. Among other things, Bursey said, the party will include information on getting a license, choosing a bike, learning Harley jargon and safety concerns. Promotions for the event also include 10 percent off all ladies' leather helmets and boots and a $100 savings on riding lessons.
