Parking sign not legible? - No fee for you!
Last year, Westminster City Council introduced a controversial parking charge system for motorcyclists within the Borough - a move that has caused universal uproar throughout London's motorcycling community, as the bays used to be free-of-charge.
The latest twist in the ongoing battle has revealed the Council's parking charge cannot be enforced if the roadside parking charge information signs have been removed, defaced or if the payment instructions aren't legible. The revelation has prompted many bikers to 'alter' or remove signs making parking in the bays, theoretically, free. Campaigners advise bikers using the 'free' bays should take a photo of the altered sign as proof.
Canadian owned company Verrus, specialists in pay by phone systems in over 90 cities throughout North America and Europe, are working hand-in-hand with Westminster City Council to enforce the parking charges.
The locals, however, are having none of it.
