Good news Syracuse residents! With all crime solved, the recent 10-day blitz against drivers using cell phones has ended with a total 2,262 tickets issued in the city representatives of the three law enforcement agencies involved said. Sleep better tonight! If your not convinced, they will repeat this in July.

There were 2,155 tickets issued for using cell phones while driving and 107 tickets issued for texting while driving. The maximum fine for the tickets is $150, which goes to the city, and there is also a state surcharge of $80 per ticket, according to court officials. That could mean that the 2,262 tickets could generate as much $339,300 in fines and $180,960 in surcharges. Judges have the ability to levy fines less than the maximum, so the fine total could be much less. |
