Part 2: Ex-NASCAR driver arrested hours after jail release
A former NASCAR racer was arrested Monday on an attempted-rape charge less than two weeks after he was jailed for leading officers on a nearly 50-mile, high-speed chase.
James Neal, 56, of San Clemente, was picked up by deputies less than five hours after being released from Orange County Jail, said Jim Amormino, an Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman.

On Monday, Neal was let out of jail at 1:30 a.m. after qualifying for early release, Amormino said. By 3 a.m., Neal arrived at the Lake Forest apartment of a 55-year-old woman he had met once before, Amormino said. Three hours later, a neighbor called deputies about a disturbance between a man and a woman in the 20700 block of El Toro Road. The woman told deputies that Neal, who was still at the home, had tried to rape her and refused to let her leave, Amormino said. Neal was arrested on charges of false imprisonment, attempted rape and burglary, Amormino said. |
