Police: Man Tries Carjacking Towtruck After Crashing
A 35-year-old man crashed his car into a utility pole on Locust Street Friday morning and then tried carjacking a tow truck who tried to him to help him, police said.
Victor Guadalupe broke his ribs in the crash and was taken to an area hospital. According to online court records, he was arrested and is being held on $150,000 bond.
He is charged with attempt to commit first-degree larceny, attempt to commit robbery by carjacking, third-degree assault, first-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, second-degree breach of peace, evading responsibility and traveling unreasonably fast.
Guadalupe crashed into the utility pole as he sped down Locust Street in reverse and tried to turn the car around, police said. A tow truck driver witnessed the crash and got out of his truck to check on the driver, later identified as Guadalupe.
Guadalupe ran out of his car, punched the tow truck driver and tried to steal the truck, police said. He ran away as the driver called police and hid in a trailer at Corona's Towing Lot at 329 Locust St.
A state police canine helped track Guadalupe, who was found behind wood pallets inside the trailer, police said.
