The driver of a stolen car was shot by officers after he rammed three patrol cars early Sunday in Federal Way, and a responding officer later collapsed dead at the scene, police said.

| The bizarre incident began when officers were called to check out a suspicious vehicle parked in the 33300 block of 26th Avenue SW at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle, a dark-colored Lincoln SUV, was backed into a spot with two people asleep in the rear. Police blocked it in with spike strips after determining that it was a stolen vehicle. Suddenly the two occupants of the vehicle awoke and jumped into the front seat, and the driver started the engine. Officers ordered the two suspects to get out of the vehicle, but they ignored the commands, said Federal Way Police Chief Brian J. Wilson. The driver put the SUV in gear and rammed a patrol car, then hit a second police car and a third as the suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, Wilson said.. |
